Tim, I saw that CCBL was actually up today inspite of earnings that were quite a bit lower that last year. Thats pretty good considering that the Nasdaq was off today. Actually its amazing considering that a few stocks that I have that reported strong earnings got a bit beat up. Hmm, maybe you're onto something with this one. Later this month a CCBL sales person is going to bring me a sample of their new mini node for HFC systems. I just got the brochure. Consider this - for about $2,000 you get:
An optical receiver for downstream analog video, cable modem, telephone, and digital video signals; A return path optical transmitter to send telephone, cable modem and interactive video control signals back to the central office, and three coaxial outputs with enough kick to easily reach a total of 40 homes in a suburban setting. That's pretty good for $50 per home. Unfortunately, other important pieces of the broadband puzzle cost a lot more - Add some power, fibers back to the central office, and a bunch of central office equipment and you get a full service broadband fiber to the curb network. Well its not quite that easy but you get the point. Ray J.
