ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1998--
SmartStream continues to strengthen the company's commitment to Microsoft(R) BackOffice(TM) by focusing Microsoft development efforts
Geac SmartStream today announced its development organization has furthered the company's commitment to Microsoft by selecting
Microsoft SQL Server(TM) as the primary development platform for future SmartStream development efforts. As a result, future SmartStream
releases are being developed on the Microsoft SQL Server platform, and the port to other enterprise databases will follow.
"The demand for SmartStream in the Microsoft environment has skyrocketed during the past year," said Colleen Niven, vice president of
research and development for Geac SmartStream. "Based on input from our customer base, our development team, and the marketplace, we
made the decision to adopt Microsoft as SmartStream's primary development platform. We believe this decision will not only accelerate our
ability to deliver products faster and more efficiently, but also allow our development organization to work with cutting-edge technology
throughout the development cycle of our products."
Geac SmartStream launched SmartStream for Microsoft BackOffice in August 1996, and it is the fastest growing SmartStream platform. To date,
more than 100 new customers have selected SmartStream with Microsoft SQL Server. In addition to supporting Microsoft SQL Server, Geac
SmartStream is integrated with other Microsoft BackOffice components such as Microsoft Systems Management Server, Microsoft SNA
Server, and Microsoft Exchange. Most recently, Geac SmartStream announced support for Microsoft's unified logon feature and the ability to
run SmartStream server programs as Windows NT(R) services in Version 5.0 of SmartStream.
