This is simply a paste of a message from the Yahoo board... thought it was of interest to us. Stu, please post these messages over here... this board has had some lively discussions in the past and needs some regenerating.

Just saw a post on Silicon Investor berating MCRE's seeming lack
of interest in 3D hardware accelerators (i.e.: Intel i740).
www4.techstocks.com
I was a little upset and doubted the accuracy of the statements, so I proceeded to contact Metacreation Customer Support. As always those folks are especially nice people (special thanks to
Rose Moonwater) and promptly emailed me their response. The email indicated the source was the Painter 3D Product Manager. The message was as follows:
----------------------Start of Message --------------------------
Painter 3D doesn't have hardware acceleration support because most of these solutions only provide geometry/rasterizing speed and not the shading acceleration which would really make a difference for a 3D painting application. The only things that would be accelerated would be rotations and renderings, not painting on the objects. Instead, we continue to develop our own proprietary method for displaying texture, bump, highlight,
reflection and glow maps in real-time.

According to our engineering, the i740 interest is probably a result of the Intel marketing machine and isn't as much of a breakthrough technology compared to some other chipsets. We will certainly evaluate it as we do with all technical advancements on Wintel and Mac platforms, especially for our 3D modeling apps like Ray Dream Studio and Infini-D.

-------------------- End of Message --------------------------

Hope this sheds some light on this issue. My impression is that MCRE is dead serious about becoming a dominant force in the
3D graphics "middle market" (Software less than a Zillion dollars for one-person freelancers like me and the household/small
business consumer market). I wouldn't kid anybody, I don't think this can happen overnight but I believe the new CEO ,Gary Lauer, and
the superb talent assets of MCRE could pull it off in the next 2 or 3 quarters. I am an MCRE stockholder..not a lot by Street
standards..but I bought it because I believe in the company.

Regards,

Stu
