That is even farther than I thought it had gone, but that is a very good idea! Not only do they not have to store the monitors, but the customer gets the latest version of the monitor! Does DELL do the same thing with the 'speaker' portion of the sound system? Or keyboard? Technically they would only have to built the box that way!

The testing could be done at a test stand with known good equipment that way! Great idea, if the outsourced equipment is as good as DELL's, put all of that could be tested prior to shipping, then the only equipment that doesn't work would have been damaged in shipping!

(When I was at IBM, we used to call that a 'field marriage'!)
