I have read the O'Shaugnessy book and found it excellent.

The difference here is that he is tracking the historical performance of stocks with variouws characteristics (you mentioned one low P/S vs. high P/S), this doesn't mean he's a chartist. He's simply pointing to the historical record.

What I object to is this notion that future price movements can be predicted from analyzing short-term trends and "patterns" in stock prices.
