When you sign the three year contract they tell you after the three years you get a life membership for about $6 - $9 per month (not too good for revenues since the people who really go to the gym would crowd the facility paying only $6/month). Look at what happened to this poor person:

I have been a loyal member of Bally's since 1989 in the New York / New Jersey area. This area is extremely hard for any health club to keep and maintain customers.

My work has moved to a location that makes it difficult to continue going to my regular gym. However I found a "Bally's" around the corner from my office in NYC on 43rd and Madison. I thought this would be great. I could go to the gym right after work before commuting home.

I went to take a look at the gym and was told that my Premier Plus membership did not allow me to go to that Bally's. It was a "Sports Club" and not "Total Fitness". I was then told that I would have to upgrade my membership. Fine. Took a look around, nice Gym, close to work. So, how much to upgrade?

I was told it would cost me $870.00 to upgrade for three years!

What about one year? No that is not available!

I would like to know why Bally's does not recognize loyal customers. How dare they charge me that much! I have been a paying member for almost ten years. I can not imagine that Bally's can not be more flexible with upgrading memberships!
