RIVERSIDE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1998--The management at Quad Research Wednesday announced their latest technical achievement, the "FibreStor System," which provides users with a blazing 200 Megabytes per second transfer speed for virtually all information storage and retrieval applications.

Quad's FibreStor is about 20 times faster than standard SCSI devices, making it the fastest storage system available using disk drives.

With its official introduction at this year's Internet World, Quad's FibreStor System is at the leading edge of commercially available products utilizing the ultra high speed new technology called "Fibre Channel". This revolutionary technology, combined with the new Compact PCI standard and Quad's proprietary engineering and components, allows FibreStor products to be optimized for Web Hosting.

PRODUCT FEATURES

Unlike typical SCSI products which are limited to 15 devices, The FibreStor System can have 126 devices per controller, with up to 30 meters between devices; so multiterabytes of storage can be controlled by server based systems. Plus, FibreStor's new Plug-and-Play dynamic device assignments automatically resolves ID conflicts.

The FibreStor System also goes beyond hot swap capability with something truly unique to the industry: HOT Expandability. And all these features, and many more, are provided in a standard 19-inch rack mounted unit.

According to Robert Arnon, Quad's chief executive officer, FibreStor's ultra high-speed, high-capacity and fault tolerant storage system will significantly speed up most server applications and any Input/Output intensive operation.

"We've already received intense interest from major multimedia firms, MIS Managers and ISPs from around the world," said Arnon. "There's no doubt in my mind that all computer systems will incorporate fibre channel technology in the future, it's so dramatically faster than anything else. We're just excited that we are one of the leaders with a viable product that's ready for market."

Quad's initial marketing of FibreStor products will target industries where faster IO functions and/or large data handling capabilities translate into increased customer service and lower costs.

"It's no secret that there is a big scramble underway to speed up Internet access," said Arnon, "but few companies are addressing the other half of the equation: server speeds. After all, it doesn't matter how fast your connection is if you're stuck waiting for the server. But with FibreStor systems at the host end, you can dramatically speed up the overall experience of the Internet today -- not two or three years down the road."

Quad plans to start shipping FibreStor products in April and is currently accepting inquiries from prospective users as well as potential marketing partners. For more information, contact Robert Arnon at 909/343-9000 or e-mail sales@quadresearch.com.
