Here's something on NB Digital, a subsidiary of the Enhanced Services Company (ESVS). Reading this gives me the impression that Zulu bought more than a Nasdaq shell company. It looks like EchoMedia and NB Digital have something in common. All right you tekkies out there, what's your read on this compatibility? Everyone focused on ESVS finances, and little attention got paid to the product of one of its subsidiaries:

NBDS to Develop Hybrid DVD Title
CROFTON, Maryland, November 3, 1997 -- NB Digital Solutions (NBDS) and Mill Reef Entertainment announced today that they are co-producing the first hybrid DVD title that will be fully compatible with all DVD-Video players and DVD-ROM drives worldwide. Scheduled for release in mid-December, the new entertainment title, called EARTHLIGHT, features stunning, never-before-seen NASA video of the Earth taken from hundreds of miles in space and six channels of DolbyO Digital Surround Sound instrumental music.
"We're excited about EARTHLIGHT because, as a hybrid disk, it bridges the gap between consumer DVD-movie players and computer DVD-ROM drives," said Ralph LaBarge, NBDS president. "Not only does it look and sound terrific on a living-room player, but there's a real bonus when you take it over to your computer and install it as a full-screen, full-motion video screen saver."
Frederick Grossberg, president of Mill Reef Entertainment, commented, "EARTHLIGHT is the first disk of its kind, and that's why we chose to partner with NB Digital Solutions. It's a real technical challenge to produce a DVD-Video title that offers extra features and added value on a computer and that actually works on all the different DVD-Video and DVD-ROM systems." "We're producing EARTHLIGHT to help people get away from it all," Grossberg added. "There's too much information pouring in on us, and everything's going faster and faster. EARTHLIGHT is calming, relaxing, and beautiful. It helps you put things in perspective."
To complement the leisurely mood of the video, EARTHLIGHT features 80 minutes of original six-channel instrumental music by composer Ryan Shore, whose recent credits include work on the movies The Game and Cop Land. EARTHLIGHT uses NBDS' new SceneSaverO software to add screen saver functionality to DVD content. Cleared for worldwide distribution, the disk also offers interactive features in eight languages, a bonus collection of high-resolution still images and a Web link for product add-ons.

NBDS To Develop DVD-ROM Title For NSHS
CROFTON, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 1997--NB Digital Solutions Inc. has been awarded a GSA contract through Macro International to develop a prototype training course published in the DVD-ROM format for the Naval School of Health Sciences, Bethesda, Md. The prototype course will be designed and developed to utilize a number of new technology advances such as DVD optical storage, MPEG-2 digital video compression and Dolby AC-3 audio compression. The overall scope of the contract is to procure and configure several prototype DVD-ROM training course playback systems, develop a prototype training course in the DVD-ROM format and to assist the Naval School of Health Sciences in deploying these prototype DVD-ROM training systems and the DVD-ROM course for demonstration and evaluation by various commands.
Currently, the Naval School of Health Sciences publishes many of its training courses in laser disc and CD-ROM formats. Although laser discs deliver high quality video data to the user, they require the addition of an expensive analog video overlay card to a standard personal computer and are not compatible with the Navy's standard multimedia PCs. CD-ROM-based courses only deliver moderate or low quality video data to the user but do not require any add-in PC hardware.
NB Digital will convert the Management of Chemical Warfare Injuries Training Course into DVD-ROM for playback on training systems which will incorporate off-the-shelf equipment and software. Minimum configurations are 200MHz Pentium MMX CPU, 32MB SDRAM, floppy drive, 3GB hard drive, 4.7GB DVD-ROM drive, MPEG-2 and Dolby AC-3 playback, sound card, 17 inch monitor, stereo speakers and Microsoft Windows 95.

DVD-Video Title Contract Signed
NB Digital Solutions will author 20 DVD-Video titles for leading entertainment company
CROFTON, MD, May 27, 1997 -- NB Digital Solutions (NBDS), the industry's leading DVD-Video and DVD-ROM title developer, today announced that it has been chosen by one of the nation's largest suppliers of home entertainment products to author at least 20 new DVD-Video movie titles for the consumer market. The development agreement calls for nine titles to be released by July 15, 1997 and another 11 titles within the year.
According to Ralph LaBarge, NB Digital president, the authoring contract is significant in that, upon fulfillment, it will dramatically increase the total number of titles available nationwide. "Fewer than 50 DVD-Video titles have been brought to market so far," LaBarge noted. "We believe the consumer market is ready to accept DVD technology and wants a wider selection of titles. NB Digital is in the vanguard of the DVD movement. As more major studios decide to bring content to market, we are well-positioned to help them convert to DVD."
The nine titles to be authored in the agreement's first phase include Night of the Living Dead, Where the Red Fern Grows, Invaders from Mars and Fists of Fury. In addition to consumer-oriented DVD-Video titles, NBDS is also developing DVD-ROM titles for the interactive multimedia presentation and corporate training marketplaces. LaBarge believes that DVD software content will not be limited to major movies, making other market segments prime candidates for DVD title development. For example, NBDS is authoring three Windows 95 training titles in the DVD-ROM format using content from WinStruct, Inc. These titles will be released in time to coincide with the availability of DVD-ROM-enabled personal computers. Companies employing NBDS marketing presentations include Nike, Toshiba, Fannie Mae and Zodiac Boats.

PIP (Partners in Production) Program Launched for DVD Titles
Innovative Program Designed to Bring DVD Titles to a Hungry Consumer Market
Crofton, Maryland- April 6, 1997 -- NB Digital Solutions (NBDS) today announced the launch of their Partners In Production (PIP) Program designed to deliver DVD titles to the consumer market. While hardware manufacturers are already releasing DVD devices, most DVD-ROM titles currently scheduled for release are the result of OEM bundle agreements. The consumer market, anxious to experience this emerging technology, is hungry for titles which deliver on the promise of DVD capability.
The development of a DVD-ROM title can be an expensive undertaking. Many multimedia, educational, and entertainment producers and developers have existing content which could prove to be quite successful if released in the new DVD-ROM format. However, some of these companies will have to wait a substantial period of time for DVD development pricing to reach the affordable stage. In an effort to assist these developers in bringing their products to market NBDS has launched the PIP Program. Companies interested in participating may submit a copy of their title for evaluation. Titles identified by the NBDS evaluation committee as having consumer market potential can qualify for dramatically reduced DVD development costs. In exchange, NBDS will share in future revenue streams.
"This program is a "Win - Win" situation" said Ralph LaBarge, President of NB Digital Solutions. "Content owners now have the opportunity to take their titles to market in the initial wave of DVD enthusiasm. Furthermore, they can do so with a partner who understands the requirements, and who will share in the risks. Likewise, the consumer gets a wider selection of title to choose from." NBDS is developing three Windows 95 training titles in the DVD-ROM format using content from WinStruct, Inc., the first member of the Partners in Production program. These titles are scheduled to be released in May when the first DVD-ROM enabled personal computers are available for consumer purchase.
