Kaiser says born-again stock may be year's big performer

Yamana Resources Inc YRI
Shares issued 27,316,990 Mar 11 close $1.47
Wed 11 Mar 98 In the News
John Kaiser, writing in the February 27 issue of his Kaiser Bottom Fishing
Report, says Yamana Resources is emerging as a strong candidate to become
his big bottom-fish winner in 1998. With a reported $20 million in the
treasury (as of December), cash-rich Yamana, now at $1.41, was recommended
in Mr Kaiser's December 1 newsletter at $0.74. Mr Kaiser notes that Yamana
is a beneficiary of the recent popularity of silver. Yamana made a
high-grade silver discovery in Argentina, but while HSBC James Capel is
calling for YRI to reach $4 by February 1999, newsletter colleague Bob
Bishop thinks the mineability is questionable. He made the company a sale.
Mr Kaiser says cash-rich resource juniors are not carrying much of a
speculative premium. This, he adds, makes prospective targets such as
Yamana ideal for speculators willing to buy before a discovery announcement
comes out of the blue. Yamana has had a history of relatively strong
prices; it traded at over $6 a year ago.
