Standard Microsys Launches Multimedia Audio Chip For PCs

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (Dow Jones)--Standard Microsystems Corp. (SMSC) launched a multimedia audio codec integrated circuit for personal computer motherboard applications.

In a press release Monday, Standard Microsystems said the integrated circuit, called DAC97S01, is a general purpose, 18-bit full duplex stereo, audio codec that conforms to the analog component specification of AC'97, the latest industry audio standard.

The company said DAC97S01 is priced at $5.25 in quantities of 10,000.

Standard Microsystems said samples will be available in mid-March and production quantities will be available in June.

Standard Microsystems supplies MOS/VLSI integrated circuits for the personal computer industry.
