Microsoft is offering a tiny subset of Java and filling it out with their own proprietary features. They are responding to pressure from Java by attempting to turn it into a simple wrapper for Windows development. Microsoft is genuinely concerned about the success Java continues to enjoy and they realize that IBM, Oracle, Motorola, Sun are on the verge of breaking the Windows monopoly -- together, using open, industry standard technology.
