i'm still a believer in the total market approach

The experience of the past 5 years at least, seems to bear you correct. Total Stock Market has gained 18.9% while Wiener's Vanguard portfolio has gained 19.5%.

It remains to be seen whether future market events tip the scales in favor of managed funds, or at least the more disciplined ones among them, like the ones Vanguard has.

Wiener is extremely bullish on the Vanguard Specialized Health Care Fund (VGHCX) for this year, to the extent of saying that if you can buy only one Vanguard fund now, you should buy this one. Considering that most health-care-related stocks have had phenomenal runs already, his bullishness seems misplaced. Well, we'll know by the end of the year!

Thanks,

Dipy.
