Regarding the price war dog fight comparison. First of
all, it's a pretty sick comparison. Who would want
their dog to get in a fight? Even the winner comes
out wounded most of the time. And against four or
five other dogs it's pretty much a done deal.

Hmmmm. Maybe the comparison is a good one. The
word from both HWP and CPQ is that they are going to
get DELL.

A note: The BTO technique has its best utility when
prices are dropping fast. When pricing is stable or
(god forbid) rising, it loses part of the advantage
of keeping smaller inventory. For instance, you can
get a better deal with your suppliers when you agree
in advance to pricing and quantity.
