Which church means: christian, moslem, buddhist, animist, zoaic, hindu, etc., etc., plus all the sects, variations, revisions, spinoffs, modifications and agnostics, atheists and new dogmatic cults. Individuals who choose to be irrational have that freedom -- they DO NOT have the freedom to impose their irrationalities on other individuals through force, edict or "law".
Your Statist examples are laughable -- what about virtually all of Europe during the Middle and Dark Ages? A much better example. And Hitler was religious -- and a mystic -- and christians (Catholic Church) helped the Nazis.
