Notes from LA Internet World.
This years spring internet world at the LA convention center seemed smaller than last year. This may be due to the hundreds of companies that don't make it or get gobbled up. It only filled up the South hall and about 1/2 of the West hall. What's even more surprising is notable abscences: Adobe, Apple, and Netscape. NSCP not at Internet World? Amazing! Just didn't seem the same! As for ADBE, no demos of Premiere, Photoshop, Acrobat.... Items crucial to web development. Macromedia was there, MSFT and INTC too. Nothing new at MSFT. In fact, I saw very little truly innovative stuff. Lots more companies touting VPNs or complete web publishing packages, and twice as many periodicals as last year, but I wish I had picked info from ADBE!!
Got an ad in mail from Caere yesterday before I went, but threw it out without reading (Omniform 3.0). When I got back, I dug it out of the trash and will probably order it! It scans in existing forms, and web enables them automatically. The whole thing took about 4-5 minutes to setup and it was done! Can print out the forms to PDF, too. Small plug-in (300K) is all that's needed. Imagine taking all existing paper forms and putting them on the intra or extranet. I was impressed. The competitor product had to be designed within the software first. Yuck! Anyway, that's some musings on Internet World.
