The previous message referred to reverse decompile/recompile of x86 software into DEC Alpha code. While this may be possible ? (I have not seen the software myself), it is expressly forbidden by most software license agreements - but perhaps exceptions would and could be worked out. I still think though that no decompiled/recompiled software could be as efficient as code compiled from scratch for the processor. Therefore any hardware speed advantage another platform may have, it would still suffer from from the software side.

t this pojnt I just don't see mainstream Alphas, or the PPC/MacOS overtaking Intel (at least over the next 3-4 years)
