RE: Screwed by 1-800-Egghead

dale,

Just wanted to issue a warning to you and the others on
this thread who may have ordered the $88 special for
Zip 10-packs last week from Egghead. When I placed
my order over the phone on March 4th, the woman who
took my order (Linda) said that the computer was "showing
a final price of $123.37, but it will be 'fixed' by
someone else before the billing." I told her I was
anxious about that, and I almost canceled the order
then and there, but she energetically assured me that
I could count on the adjustment being made. Well, the
disks arrived yesterday, and the ship acknowledgment
that accompanied them was "showing" a final price of
$109.23. I was told the price would be $88, plus
$5 shipping, plus sales tax (which is 8% here,
meaning $7.44 maximum even if they tax me on the
shipping, which they shouldn't do), for a total of
no more than $100.44. So, I called their Sales Support
Department at 1-800-344-4323, went through five levels
of voice mail, got put on hold for fifteen minutes, talked
to "Bob," was told that indeed a mistake was made, was told
that my credit card account would be credited with the
difference, but was also told that, once again,
he could not tell me what the actual, correct
price was going to be, because again the computer
wasn't "showing" it, and that I'd just have to
wait until I got my charge card statement to
find out what price I really was paying.

So, folks, if you snapped up this bargain, check your
invoice and prepare to spend $200 worth of your time
on the phone to get the price adjusted downward ten
bucks.

Egghead will also make a nifty profit on this special,
once you factor in Linda's salary, Bob's salary, the
two charges they'll get from the credit card company
for the charge and the credit, and the two lengthy
800-number calls from me.

Yesiree, the private sector is far more efficient
than government.

Cheers, Tom (long IOM)
