Rob - I agree with most everything you said and others' recent comments on the commiditization of uPs. On your comment above, this is where I think IDTI and the boxmakers can make out big time. As I was standing there in front of the computers, it occurred to me that both HP and CPQ could move a lot more boxes if they allowed the consumer to choose which uP was inside. For example, the same box could be offered for $999 with an IDT chip, $1099 with AMD, and $1199 with INTC. The Dells and Gateways already do this to a certain degree through the mail.
