Bill,
I met Mike Pickering at their offices at 9:00am pst. We drove the back roads to the mine. Highway 49 was damaged by all the rains and is only passable 4 times a day for a period of 15 min. each time otherwise it is upto 3 hr wait. It is difficult to time your self and employees that live outside the mine area to get to and from the mine. I have taken pictures of this route and other sites, these will be posted tonight. When we arrived at the mine they were just finishing loading the truck that would take a load of ore to the Ruby mine mill. The truck them left to go to the mill. (around 11:00am)
I was given the raingear <g> for the trip into the mine. It could have been my shower, there was so much water coming from the rock walls and floor.
We were given a ride into the mine and I was instructed on the various items given me in the event of an emergency. The trip was very exciting to me. I have never been inside a mine before. I believe there where at least 9 minors working in the pillars.
Mike informed me that they dig out about 15' of material a day. I was given the grand tour of the inside of the mine. The floor was flooded and the large mine shaft that went done was filled and the water was ankle deep. We walked to the pillar 2500 and they were filling the train carts with ore to bring out. I took several pictures in the mine, nut they did not come out. Too dark. We spent several minute talking to the minors. They are working five days a week on 4 - 10 hr. shifts.
We had to walk out of the mine and it was all I could do to keep my head down. The roof beams are lower than my head. <ouch> 5x I hit.
Finally, I could see the light, not from hitting my head, but the end of the mine. The time in the mine went by quickly. We got out and I was out of the raingear as quickly as possible. The weather at the mine was comfortable outside and about 50 degrees inside the mine.
This was about 12:00 pm. We then started the trek to the Ruby mine and mill. This took us about 30 - 45 minutes to get there. We met up with the truck, remember it left at 11:00am, about 1:00pm and it was about 1/2 miles from the ruby mill. It takes about 2 hrs to get to the mill loaded.
More later
gary:)
