Japan police say MOF bank official hangs himself
By Elaine Lies
TOKYO (Reuters) - A Ministry of Finance official dealing
with small banks hanged himself Thursday, becoming the latest
victim of a wave of economy-related suicides, police said.
A spokesman identified the official as Yoshio Sugiyama, 46,
an assistant to the head of the Banking Bureau's Small Banks
Division. The spokesman did not reveal the contents of a suicide note
left by Sugiyama.
His division was involved in helping small and medium-sized banks through Japan's financial crisis of declining economic
growth, business failures and narrowing credit.
