Bruce: Thermoelectric generators have been around for a long time. In fact, a number of U.S. space probes to the outer planets have generated their electricity this way. The heat source has been the decay of radioactive isotopes, but any heat source will work. The problem with this type of generator has been their low efficiency. Unless they have made a breakthrough that greatly increases the efficiency, this would not be nearly as efficient as a fuel cell. The advantages of thermoelectric generators are: 1. Low maintenace 2. Quiet 3. High reliability Michael
