Yeah, Seagate sucks, WDC sucks, APM sucks, according to your
stories there will be no drives except from IBM and Toshiba going into the next century. "Risk free?" - maybe in the short-term trading sense. Long term they are all about evenly priced and the support for APM is based on the good chance that the technical problems - which only require engineering, patience, and funding (incidentally the funding always comes when there is a viable market - especially in these go-go years). Probably the short potential is wrung out but if you insist, I'd suggest an equally capitalized long on Quantum to compensate for a sector uplift.

IBM buy-out of WDC is probably too big for their conservative CEO. Mixing it up much in the business is probably also to risky for IBM blood, except to go high end. A Pakistani with an IBM server will carry more status than one with a mere Seagate.
