TOKYO, JAPAN, 1998 MAR 12 (NB) -- By Martyn Williams, Newsbytes. Paradyne Corporation says it has won a "multi-million dollar contract" from the Guangdong PTA in China for the supply of its Hotwire Rate Adaptive DSL (RADSL) system. The Guangdong system represents the largest ADSL (asymmetrical digital subscriber line) deployment to date in China, said Paradyne.
"After rigorous testing and selection among several leading ADSL vendors, the Guangdong PTA chose Paradyne's Hotwire RADSL solutions for SUPER GNET, one of the largest broadband networks in China backboned by ATMs," said Yongjun Huang, the project manager in charge of the Network Access of Broadband Service Division at Guangdong PTA, in a Paradyne statement.

"To date, this is the largest ADSL application in China. We're pleased this project is going smoothly and the test results from several sites are satisfactory," added Huang. Paradyne said the system is expected to be expanded to 4,000 lines by the end of the year.

"The selection of Hotwire products by the Guangdong PTA is our first major entry into the expanding Chinese market," said Paradyne President and chief executive officer, Andrew May.
