Thanx for turning me on to this thread. Some very good reading here. I have one ignorant question: I have a very small traditional IRA. I have invested roughly 3000 into it (total) and it is worth about $7000 today. It is my understanding that if I convert this to a Roth IRA, I will pay taxes on the $3000 I invested. Question: Will I also pay capital gains on the $4000 at the time of transition ? Thanks in advance for the help.

PS...I havent had time to read all the posts yet ,I apologize if this has already been addressed.
