I agree. It just occurred to me recently that with my Ameritrade
account, I can buy shares for $8 and have more control over
the price I get. For only $3 more I think it's worth it. Don't think
I'll be adding any more to my MRK DRIP. Plus it's more convenient
to sell through a broker rather than the DRIP. In the future, we
may even see lower brokerage commissions. Hope MRK revises
its fee structure soon as well. $5 is on the high end for a DRIP
anyway.
