Hi Robert, From my understanding of the scriptures lucifer the fallen angel in Ezekiel had rebelled before the episode in the garden and it was this spirit of rebellion and evil that was there to entice Eve. He is referred to in many scriptures as a serpent or dragon. God wanted Adam and Eve to come to Him in there shame after the fall as we have to come to Him now in our sinful state. This is difficult to some for it requires humility which is a sign of wisdom. Again the Bible uses many animal names to describe a spirit, sheep, wolves, serpents, dragons, doves etc....
