Yes, Delbert, all life forms you cite have 'mathematical minds'. John Galt does not mean they are necessarily doing algebra or contemplating why differential equations appear to work. Nor are all 'other' life forms on automatic pilot. This may appear so but only because there is much to learn.
All life forms CALCULATE various paths toward their own survival, such as paths to energy conservation or to least resistance and paths toward safety or defendability. They weigh the evidence that is out there (reality) and act upon it. Watch your own dog or cat closely with this in mind.
Of course, the 'other' life forms are far removed from our own sophistication. They are not pondering the universe or planning tomorrow's schedule of events. But, primarily, they cannot imagine their own absence. However, we are just now beginning to discover that all life forms have, at minimum, a biological 'memory' at the DNA level, and that may further evolve this 'memory' in their own existance.
John Galt does not BELIEVE in ethical rationalism, he KNOWS it. There is a big distiction to be made here. Beliefs imply that you must have faith in something because you are uncertain of it. I am certain about this. Your example of ethical rationalism was excellent.
