Dom B-- off topic What a chemistry you have with me! I was on a talk show since I have come twice- once dicussing ills of IMF advised ' private power generation' policy will and have affected Pakistan's finances very adversely and second the need of building new dams so as reduce our dependancy on imported food- we are expanding real fast 'population' growth rate is nearly three percent and food is growing only at a rate of 1% per annum in 5 years I see spectre of "famine' in my homeland and a shorfall of 10 milllion ton of wheat- we have one of largest resources of sweet water but we throw 40 MAF in sea without utilising it--- the politicians are short sighted and would like to go for projects with quicker gestation time so that they get votes and benefits of re-election accrue at the right time-- what we really need is to store this water the flow in Indus is strange as you know we have these flows emanating from few of largest glaciers outside North pole so we have 70 % of our water flowing in three summer months and 30% in rest of the other 9 months now we have two seasons of sowing crops one is known as Kharif and other rabbi-- in pre-winter months when we need water for sowing of wheat it is just too little, and in summer we are washed out with floods- this failure of harnessing of our resources is a tragic story of my very poor nation which spends most of the time in pursuit of nearness to God and in mosques forgetting in process the most basic injunction of God that 'God help those who help themselves'. It is this I talk about and persue to carry to everyone in this country- my speech is always simple and crisp== stop mutiplying control your libidos- go for family planning-- send your kids to schools and to my government my message is that nations become Somalia ( this is the topic of my thesis also) not because of famine it is the management silly' think future' and harness your resources, I hope we will snow ball into a movement of change-- but ofcourse living in Paris and talking about elimination of povery are inherent contradictions which are difficult to sell to poor masses, the only way is to make them realize the high cost of ignoring the writing on wall.
