Dale and All... it seems to me that Sony has a different idea up its sleeve. As you all know the Sony Mavica Digital Camera is being heavily advertised and has achieved some good sales due to having a neat design, 10X digital Zoom, and uses a 3.5" floppy to store images. The resolution is not too good, but what the heck, you just use floppies (almost free) for your "digital film". Well, the product cycle for the Mavica is probably just about over and they will likely announce the Mavica 2 (Mega-Pixel) digital camera sometime this year, but this time it will not just use 3.5" floppies with about a Meg of storage, BUT NOW WILL HAVE 200 MB of storage with their new Hi Fud drive built in. Of course they will also have the NEW Sony computer line with Hi Fud drives "BUILT IN" so if you want to buy one then you will have to buy the entire Sony "digital photography system". I'm sure that once they do announce this, that they will have a line of internal drives for other boxes ready as well. Will this work... WHO KNOWS?, but the scenario sounds plausible to me. All of this is PURE SPECULATION on my part, but when you put 2 and 2 together, IT COULD BE where Sony is going with the new higher density floppy, not to blow Iomega out of the water, but to exploit the potentially explosive digital photography market. Now if they could do both, so much the better for Sony... Any and all comments welcome... Mel |
