I think it's interesting to look at these three drives and how they were or will be marketed:

Zip: When Zip arrived, the market was new. There was no "consumer" market for removable storage. Iomega built that market by reaching to the retail segment first and then aggressively pursuing the OEM channel.

LS-120: LS-120 seemed to try to reach for the OEM first, but with a lack of demand fell back upon retail. With the firmly entrenched competition (Zip) at retail, they've only been moderately successful after taking huge price concessions.

HiFD: It looks like Sony will be trying the OEM route first, as well. I see no reason to believe that they will meet any less resistance than LS-120 did. They may then try to shift to retail, but once again I don't see any reason to believe that they will be able to pull it off.
