Go,
It appears that the drop was a cumulation of Fulcrum bundling it's product with win95 and the new Microsoft NT 4.0 index server. The Bundled Fulcrum appears to be free and the Microsoft NT 4.0 index server is also free and has received good articles in computer magazines as "has not crached and its and viciously fast". The quick thinker will say " verity will be out of business!!!".A parallele questions is will netscape be out of business because of microsoft internet explorer.
A shareholder and new prospects may say " hey !! hold the phone. hold the phone "
At the same time their has been some new 144 forms filed with the sec. e.g mellon bank, ava partners, landmark ventures, inter american bank, moser john, and nelson philip. They are all using the Alex and Brown & Sons firm. The first questions that I dont know is whether they are buy's or sell's. If they are buys, the verity of course will be better positions. If they are sells (which allways happens naturaly)then the verity stock may be concerning. Maibe not. As of October 10 1997 they were aproximately 47% institutional holdings and appears to be increasing.
Now the second questions is "is verity much better than fulcrum and microsoft nt index server". If not then we should be concerned.
If verity does LEAD (which is does just like netscape. but for how long?.The verity products are more advanced than microsoft, but dont forget that microsoft is free, allready had 15000 free dowloads. sometimes the best players do not last), then it may be great. I beleive friday night there were some dow jones news with a vrty coverage of buy( 2 or three analyst). Also hambresth Quist have a buy recommendation and the stock is favorable with wessels, arnold and henderson.. The questions is how does verity differentiates itself with fulcrum and microsoft. The other companies are of no threat. At least for now.
Also more information on what happend with the alex brown conference will be helpful.
My opinion here is that verity does indeed lead in its industry. But what are the plans to compete with the free windows nt 4.0 index server. So far the only info that i have is that they are selling as a value added to the free windows nt 4.0 index server. Of course verity does not depend on windows nt 4.0, but i would say that it is rather important, because for the first time all sometimes in june 96 the internet servers were mostly used in windows nt not on sun machines.
Verity appears to side with orable/netscape/sun etc instead of microsoft wich is ok. But if their products for the window nt are great, then institutions will buy verity.
Verity is now an inexpensive stock in between $14 and $16. If they play their cards right. they could go up to $40 dollars. Their sales are allways increasing, they have great products, they have a great president ( that is very very technical and excellent in management).
