How exactly does a shakedown (which is exactly what this lawsuit is) benefit the shareholders?

By costing the company money in legal fees, which will reduce earnings and thus make it harder for the stock price to rise? By undermining investor confidence, thus making it harder for the stock price to move up? By costing the company money in settlements which will benefit the lawfirms but not the members of the class?

I'm finding it hard to see the upside here.
