<< Does your info mean Omnicom MIS is dumping Macs, or that Omnicom MIS is demanding all of its subsidiaries do so?>>

Yes, they are demanding all of their subsidiaries do so. They want to make a simplified job of support by having everyone on Compaqs running Windows NT software.

By the way, I also passed this field intelligence to Apple. Hopefully, they will react in a swift manner and offer some good arguments. Usually once these decisions are made, they are set in stone. They are already dismantling the Quickmail network and replacing it with MS Exchange for all their subsidaries.

A pattern I see in companies switching to PCs is that they start by diassembling the Quickmail network and replacing it with MS Exchange. Perhaps the developers of Quickmail should address this problem as well.

Quickmail is just that, a quick, simple mail system. Users and MIS people are lured to exchange with the promise of integrated scheduling (MS Schedule is part of Exchange) and other features. Once the foot is in the door, it opens the floodgates to total OS and hardware replacement. The Borg have beamed aboard the ship and have taken over Main Engineering!

If ever there was a need for a Rhapsody client that runs on PowerPC and Intel it is now while they are in the transition phase. Once NT has settle in and leached its roots into all systems, they will never be able to remove it!

I don't even know why I care. It's not like I own a lot of Apple stock to make a real difference. Supporting NT environments means more work and lots of $$. It also means job security for quite a long while.

Apple has superior products, but can slowly and surely get the job done.

Perhaps it's the notion that if the Nazis had won and taken over the world, we would have law and order everywhere. Everything would be moving in with military precision. We would speak the universal language - German. There would be no racism and national disputes. Everyone would be the same.

But it would be a dull, ugly world.

Think Different.
