Microsoft is quietly taking over the low end of the spectrum. they can integrate software better than anyone. look what they did to Netscape. Microsoft is going to underprice and over-integrate and squeeze oracle out of the market. they already knocked off sybase. they will be totally scalable with SQL Server 7.0. database software is getting commoditized just like the browser. maybe microsoft will even start giving it away as part of NT server someday. right now they want to be quiet so as not to provoke the justice department further.

one the services front, Oracle can't compete with top-tier companies like Peoplesoft and Cambridge technology partners. the software service industry is overflowing with new talent and competition. Oracle is growing old.
