Mike, The latest issue of PCMag presents JOhn Dvorak's latest speculations regarding the computer biz. Very entertaining... he predicts Intel buys CPQ. The combo is unbeatable, can even conjure an operating system having both THE CPUs (x86, Alpha, Merced) as well as the operation to produce the boxes and networks! Very tidy theory... He notes that ALpha moves to 600mz shortly and then to 1 billion next. Very speedy, and keeps DEC Alpha machines ahead of Merced for much more time than already estimated (3-4 years).
