There's a lot of talk of what ACTV has going with GIC, but from the
below post on their home page, how can they being doing all those
demos when the software isn't expected to be released until July 1st,

DIGITAL SET TOP BOXES
A key variable in the choice of initial markets will be the availability of digital set top boxes from General Instrument (GIC-24). Planned production of 100,000 units/month began in Q1 97. GI is increasing from one to three production lines this month to deal with a lengthy (six month) backlog. Other set top box manufacturers have yet to qualify designs and are not shipping. As a result, ACTV's opportunity will be gated by digital box availability and we don't expect a critical mass of boxes in a given market to occur until 1998.

It is believed that with a successful ramp in production, GI could produce 1.5 to 2.0MM units in 1997. A significant number are targeted at the same markets in which ACTV plans to provide programming. As such we believe the company will be targeting as many as 500,000 digital subscribers in their markets by year-end.

The GI box will accept ACTV's programming software and the Sarnoff Research Center is writing an interface program to be completed July 1.

Importantly, the inclusion of software enabling the reception of ACTV's signals in digital boxes means that cable distributors have no incremental equipment costs in offering the service to subscribers.
