This is my posting from March 8th. I'm going to post it again for those who missed it. I will expand on it shortly. The enviroment for ACTV has actually improved since then. If given the time, I will post industry related articles. From: Steve Hausser Sunday, Mar 8 1998 2:43PM EST Reply # of 1806
To All, The overwhelming opinion at the San Antonio show is that ACTV is the biggest thing to come down the pike in cable, PERIOD. The technology is SO VALUABLE, it is almost priceless. The revenues it can generate from sports are one thing, however, the advertising revenues are nuclear. If you read what the MSO's need, well bingo, this is it. Remember, they need tons of cash to finance to finance this transformation. The tech companies like MSFT, etc, and game shows ARE DOWN THE ROAD. Wink and all those other companies that ACTV gets lumped with, are not only minor in significance to ACTV and their relevance to the digital roll-out, they have TECH PROBLEMS. Get this, it is ACTV and some interacvtive program guide. There is basically NOTHING ELSE OUT THERE. They don't know if they can get some of these other techs to EVEN WORK properly. So while they wait, we are flawlessly READY NOW!!!
Dale Bennett the regional manager for TCI in Texas, is faced with a major problem- his staff is so excited about the product, he is worried about them, "Keeping it quiet". They are really worried about suppling the demand. It is a foregone conclusion among the players that this is a major hit. If you disagree with me fine, I am reporting what I know to give some insight to the many fine people who invested in ACTV. One last point, I think the availability of the product is going to explode in the next few months.
