I firmly believe that there is one major item that everyone should do when considering an investment: read the latest filings with the SEC (10K, 10Q, 8K). This is so easy and without cost in most cases, since the arrival of EDGAR filings. Thus, a person can come to their own conclusion as to the merit on any investment. If the company in question is not a reporting company, and does not file 10K's, 10Q's etc. with the SEC, stay away from it, because any and all information received is second hand - which usually spells disaster in hyped stocks.
