I haven't read the article, but I would think the op-sys is NT. Both the Alpha and the Merced (when it finally comes to market) run NT (the Alpha will run 5.0 first). Also, DEC was porting it's UNIX to the Merced.
More importantly IMHO, someone recently told me that 4.0 for workstations, let me put this delicately, is not the greatest. IMHO MSFT and CPQ (or Intel) should exploit the Alpha as much as possible to take up the (considerable?) slack that NT 4.0 leaves in it's wake.
