Avid doesn't need any better publicity for its products than it already has. It is the defacto leader in my industry, well-respected and a long-time innovator, the first choice for video professionals, movie editors and television networks. Avid = Mercedes to us, and putting their name on an ultra low-end product for consumers isn't going to improve their image. The majority of their business has and will continue to come from the professional market, and this is what institutional and knowledgeable investors are looking at. The problem with its stock price is that even after a record quarter ($115M) they still could make any money, even without the huge writeoff due to discontinuing the Media Spectrum.

You're right about the Avid Cinema product, which outputs pretty miserable quality, even if you're used to second-generation VHS. And at its low price point, I can't imagine it will add much more than a few dollars to Avid's bottom line. Avid needs to fix its business operations so that it can earn money for shareholders from its high-margin, industry-leading product lineup.
