Ignacio, On what do you base your conclusion that the chance of life on the moon is negligible? If there is water present for any long period of time life becomes probable, in my opinion. Are you aware of the latest findings that there is possibly more life beneath the surface of the Earth, than on it's surface? Bacteria have even been detected in volcanic vents. It seems when there is an opportunity for life to evolve, it does. It seems that the main reason that life evolves much more easily in water is that it is a very good solvent for many chemicals, and it greatly increases the chance meeting between the necessary molecules, because they are much more mobile. Life then becomes a probability function.

I would like to see an experiment done where several billion gallons of sterile water and simple precursor chemicals necessary for life were subjected to conditions similar to those done in the fifties where only amino acids were formed. My bet would be that life will evolve within a few years in such a sealed container.
