Monday March 16, 5:38 am Eastern Time C&W hits record amid further bid speculation LONDON, March 16 (Reuters) - Cable and Wireless Plc (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: CW.L) was among the biggest gainers in the UK's FTSE 100 index early on Monday, hitting a record high after a weekend newspaper report revived bid speculation around the telecoms group, dealers said. Saturday's Daily Mail said there was speculation of a bid at 800p per share for the company, which traded 12p or 1.7 percent higher at 712 by 1019 GMT in moderate volume of 732,862 shares -- after earlier reaching a record 715p. A C&W spokeswoman said the company's policy was never to comment on market speculation.
