I have heard that somewhere there is a Level II service that allows you to dial up directly to that brokerage's trading system and trade as an extension of them. Their fees are a bit higher per trade, of course, but you are a remote version of their traders, using your account.

What I like about it compared to the SOES operations is that it's not as manic(I like trading but 30 or 40 a day is a little too much for me); you are trading your account so you don't have to be flat at the end of each day; and of course, the most important benefit, buying at the bid and selling at the as, without having to take the Series 7 exam!!!

Have I imagined this?.
