(The real news here is that Cymer finally seems to have a PR department!)

Cymer Promotes Industry Veteran Pascal Didier to Senior Vice President of Worldwide Customer Operations

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 1998--Cymer, Inc. (NASDAQ:CYMI), the world's leading supplier of excimer laser illumination sources essential for deep ultraviolet (DUV) photolithography, today announced that it has promoted Pascal Didier, 39, to the new position of senior vice president of worldwide customer operations -- reporting to Robert Akins, Cymer's president and chief executive officer.

In his new role, Didier is chartered with directing Cymer's worldwide sales, marketing and support operations, which have been centralized to better serve the escalating needs of the company's growing customer base. Didier is also responsible for managing the sales and support operations of the company's wholly owned Japanese subsidiary, Cymer Japan, to further augment its market share in this key geographic region.

According to Akins, Didier's appointment is the latest step in an ongoing program designed to enhance customer satisfaction on a global scale and further entrench Cymer's position as the excimer laser market and technology leader. Over the last year, Cymer's global expansion effort has included doubling the number of Cymer's worldwide offices to nine.

The company has also tripled its customer service and support staff to address the growing demand among chipmakers and stepper suppliers alike for Cymer's advanced DUV laser technology. As a result, Cymer has personnel and spare parts depots in 17 key locations around the world-enabling timely local support to customers on three continents.

"Pascal's extensive industry expertise in international operations will be instrumental in helping Cymer strengthen its global infrastructure to support our growing installed base of over 230 krypton fluoride (KrF) production lasers. Specifically, Pascal will work directly with stepper manufacturers and chipmakers to ensure that both our existing and emerging DUV laser solutions address their highly complex requirements for superior resolution capabilities, tight critical dimensions and accurate dose control," said Akins.

Prior to his promotion, Didier served as Cymer's vice president of sales and marketing. Before joining Cymer, he was vice president of worldwide sales and field operations for GaSonics International. In this role, Didier was responsible for the sales and service of the company's photoresist removal, oxidation furnace and isotropic etch products.

Prior to GaSonics, he spent over 12 years at Megatest Corp., serving in a variety of management positions including vice president of international operations. Didier holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from College de Paris VII and a bachelor's degree in electronics from Institut Universitaire de Lyon.

Cymer, Inc. is the leading provider of excimer laser illumination sources for use in deep ultraviolet (DUV) photolithography systems targeted at the pilot and production segments of the semiconductor manufacturing market.
