Press Release
Golf Legend Sam Snead Joins Classic Series

March 16, 1998 12:28 PM

PHOENIX, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Classic Golf Corp. CSGC today announced that Sam
Snead has agreed to play in the inaugural Classic on March 30, 1998 at Superstition Mountain. His playing partner for the event will be Lionel Hebert.

Snead's career record is extraordinary. The holder of numerous individual records, including most career PGA Tour victories with 81, Snead also holds the record for most victories in a single event,
with eight wins at the Greater Greensboro Open, and became the oldest player to win a PGA Tour event when he won the 1965 Greater Greensboro at age 52. He holds three Masters titles, 1949, 1952, and 1954, and three PGA Championships, 1942, 1949, and 1951. He also has a British Open crown with a win in 1946. His Ryder Cup career is also outstanding, with appearances on the 1937, 1947, 1949, 1951, 1953, 1955, and 1959 teams. He was a playing captain of the 1951 and 1959
teams, as well as a non-playing captain of the 1969 team.

That Snead's dominance of the game came at a time when the likes of Hogan, Demaret, and Nelson where actively competing on the Tour speaks volumes for his remarkable playing record.

Hebert's victories include his 1957 PGA Championship, in which he narrowly edged out fellow Classic player Dow Finsterwald. Hebert also was a member of the 1957 Ryder Cup team. Hebert comes from a family that is steeped in golf history. His brother Jay had a PGA Championship to his credit, as well as a number of Ryder Cup appearances. David F. Marr III, CEO of Classic Golf Corp., stated, "I am delighted that Lionel will be playing. He was a terrific friend of my father's and his participation is very fitting."

Marr added, "Sam personifies golf. His playing record and personality make him a living legend of the game of golf. We not only have the player with the most major victories, Jack Nicklaus, but we now
have the player with the most career victories, as well. This inaugural field goes beyond what we had expected and will certainly make this event very memorable."

The company has one invitee and playing partner to announce to complete the inaugural Classic field.
