conrad: I only use the "intrinsic value" guidance set out in the PB Short literature. As much in the money as possible, and the least time premium I can find. Usually requires that you check three or for options for the best price.

Not sure why Etrade wouldn't let you buy calls or puts if you can write covered calls. It's a pure cash out lay, no margin required, and the risk is limited to the cost of the position.
