The C80 is precisely the part that I had in mind when writing my post. It can easily implement 4 ADSL modems simultaneously. It does require external chips for A/D and D/A of each channel, which is not required for CopperGold etc. but does have a fifth processor (like a microcontroller) in its package that could composite the data from each modem to and from ATM and TCP packets. The best thing about the TI deal from an engineering perspective is that these chips are already in capacity production and Amati need only add their own software, which will need only limited customization for this chip. The tools needed for this job are readily available and the product could conceivably be ready in 6 mos.
