Isn't Pair Gain's deal with Rockwell good for Aware since:
PairGain to Purchase Aware's ADSL Modules DMT-based system provides multiple megabit communications over standard phone lines
December 20, 1996....Bedford, MA....PairGain Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: PAIR) and Aware, Inc. (Nasdaq:AWRE) announced today a joint development and purchase agreement under which Aware will provide PairGain with ADSL modules for use in PairGain's products.
This agreement is consistent with PairGain's previously announced intention to offer its customers multiple xDSL solutions based on various technologies and chipsets.
The Aware modules are printed circuit boards containing the Analog Devices AD20msp910 chipset. This is the second ADSL chipset to emerge from the broadband telecommunications partnership between Analog Devices and Aware that began in 1993. The Aware/ADI chipsets provide rate adaptive transmission, adapting their data rate to the maximum possible speed on a given telephone line to within 32kbps, with throughputs of up to 8Mbps downstream and 800kbps upstream. They use the highly robust DMT multicarrier modulation technique standardized by the ANSI T1E1.4 standards body.
"We are excited to be working with HDSL industry leader PairGain," said Aware CEO and President Jim Bender. "Aware's modules combine the Analog Devices ADSL chipset with Aware's transceiver and modem knowledge, enabling OEM equipment suppliers to quickly integrate ADSL technology into their products."
Module prototypes will be available in the first half of 1997, with production quantities following shortly thereafter. Pricing starts at $500, with volume pricing available.
With this agreement PairGain becomes the first xDSL provider capable of offering three ADSL solutions: DMT ADSL, based on the company's internal Falcon chip development; CAP ADSL, and Aware's DMT-based module.
PairGain, based in Tustin, CA, designs, manufactures and markets high-speed Digital Subscriber Line (xDSL) products and systems that allow service providers and enterprises to more efficiently and quickly deploy high-speed data, video and voice service to end users over the existing infrastructure of ordinary copper telephone lines. The xDSL market leader's HiGain T1/E1, PG-Flex subscriber carrier systems, campus area network and megabit access products are marketed under the trademark, CopperOptics, indicating their ability to provide fiber optic quality transmissions over the last mile in both public and private networks, worldwide.
Aware, headquartered in Bedford, Massachusetts, is a leader in "last-mile" technology for broadband communications and high-speed access to the Internet. The company's products allow users to maximize use of scarce bandwidth resources for transmitting digitized data. Aware is developing ADSL technology, software, modules, and modems for high-speed, interactive broadband network applications.
