Powerwave Technologies Announces Purchasing Agreement With Nokia

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 1998--Powerwave Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: PWAV - news) Thursday announced that it has entered into a Purchasing Agreement with Nokia Telecommunications Inc. under which Powerwave will supply high performance RF power amplifiers for use in Nokia's GSM Booster Site base station equipment .

This purchasing agreement covers high performance single carrier GSM amplifiers and is expected to result in initial deliveries during the first quarter of 1998. No total dollar value was placed on the agreement.

''Powerwave is excited to formalize its relationship with Nokia and to begin supplying Nokia with amplifiers for the high-powered booster option for its GSM base stations,'' stated Bruce C. Edwards, president and chief executive officer of Powerwave Technologies. ''Powerwave has worked with Nokia on development efforts over the past year and we are excited to move into the production phase.''

''The Nokia Booster Site is a unique product in today's market, offering coverage increases and cost savings for operators,'' stated Olli-Pekka Raikaa, program manager, Nokia Telecommunications Inc.
