Well, that is what ecommerce is: transactions. The advantage of ecommerce is distribution which is to be done using devices that the common consumer will use. There is the enabling software (a browser) and then the security part (tokens, smart cards, server software, digital certificates etc...). Amazon is not a gorilla but Amazon could conceivably get advertising revenues and its management team is excellent. The numbers speak for themselves. Amazon does possess first-mover advantage which is a huge advantage. It is transaction processing on steroids (growing at internet speed).
